Canberra Indoor Rock Climbing is implementing an increase in prices. Since our last price increase, the cost of rent and insurance coverage for our gyms has increased significantly. As well, the long-term and ongoing effects of the global pandemic has had a negative financial impact on the business.
We have done our research, and have compared our programs and pricing with other sports available in Canberra, as well as climbing gyms and programs further afield in Sydney. We have made sure that despite a price increase, we are still comparable or competitive with other options in the Canberra community and with other Australian climbing gyms.
We are happy to say that with this price increase, we will also be adding new membership options that our customers have frequently asked us for.
In addition to our 3-month membership, which will be increased to $300, we will now offer 6-month and 12-month memberships. A 6-month membership will cost $580, saving you $20 compared to buying two 3-month memberships. A 12-month membership will cost $1,100, saving you $100 compared to buying four 3-month memberships, or $40 compared to buying two 6-month memberships.
Groups of 10+, including for birthday parties, will see an increase to $21 from $20. This price includes entry and harness hire. We will also be increasing our pricing for school groups and scout groups, which will still offer these groups a favourable deal while helping us to avoid raising our walk-in prices for the general public.
We will also be implementing price increases to our squad programs, effective for Term 2, 2022. Mountain Goats, our adult program, will increase by $5 to $300. Our youth programs – Rock Rats, Geckos, and Rock Squad, will increase by $20 to $245. Twice per week participation in Geckos or Link Squad will also increase by $20 to $295.
Our squad programs are the bedrock of our community, and also where a majority of our labour is given to. We always carefully discuss price increases to our squads, understanding that affordability is important to many families in these programs. Raising our prices in the other areas previously mentioned has helped us avoid a larger increase to our squads for the time being. In addition to rent and insurance costs, this increase will help us cover transaction fees associated with our new online booking system that we will be implementing for Term 2 enrolment. And, as mentioned before, our research shows us that we are still keeping our program prices comparable or competitive with others.
