A note about our upcoming Social Nights in light of COVID-19:
Due to government restrictions on businesses, we have had to close our doors until further notice. As such, the Social Nights Series has been cancelled. We look forward to rescheduling them when we are allowed to re-open. You can read more on our COVID-19 update statement.
A couple times a week we’re getting Facebook messages and emails from people asking how they can get connected with other climbers. Whether you’re new to Canberra and in need of a climbing partner, you’re getting back into the sport after a few years away, or you’re just keen to make some new friends, we hope our new social nights series will help people connect.
The Canberra climbing community is a lovely and welcoming one, and these events will be an opportunity for people to rub elbows in a positive, encouraging, and supportive environment. Our staff will be available to help everything run smoothly and in a fun way.
At Canberra Indoor Rock Climbing, we believe climbing is for everyone. In addition to a general social night, we’ve included group-specific nights in this series. Unfortunately, not everyone has the experience of feeling welcome or comfortable in every space they arrive in. Sometimes it’s helpful to try a new activity or go somewhere new with people more like you, with similar lived experiences. Group-specific social nights have already shown to be a great success at other gyms around Australia and the world.

Take a look at most any form of climbing media, and you’re likely to see a lot of six packs and biceps the size of El Cap. And while those super buff climbers are certainly deserving of recognition, this mainstream presentation of the climbing community tends to send the wrong message about who is and isn’t welcome to the sport. If you’ve ever gotten the message that you don’t have the “right body” for rock climbing or working out at the gym, whether it’s because of your weight, age, a disability, etc., this night is for you. Rock climbing is for everyone!
